December reading and other inspiration

Hello friends! I should've been writing this post at the end of December but somehow I got caught up with other things so I'm doing it now. December was full of comic books and simple paper crafts (like this star I shared in last month's post). I tried to create a festive atmosphere at home with what I had which was quite fun at some point. Anyway, here's what I gathered for you for the last month.

Reading:

  • "The Wood at Midwinter" by Susanna Clarke. It’s a lovely and super short book about a girl who was only happy when she was in the woods. She was able to talk to animals and trees and the atmosphere in the book is so magical and calming. One thing I feel a bit strange about is that this book is very very short and it ended so quickly, I'm sorry I didn't check before that it's a short story. I would love to read much more about everything that happened in that woods as the setting and ideas there are very interesting to me. Also, I loved the writing itself, I will definitely read something else by this author.

  • "Little Book of Fred", "The Extraordinary World of Fred", "Fred", "Off the Leash. A Dog's Best Friend" and "Off the Leash. The Secret Life of Dogs" by Rupert Fawcett. The first three books are about Fred, his wife and his friends with all kinds of fun situations around them. Super easy to read but I wouldn't say I loved all the jokes there... I much more enjoyed the other 2 books about dogs. There are quite a few fun pictures about dogs that are so true!

  • "Snoopy" by Charles M. Schulz. I'm not sure if Snoopy needs any introduction at all but I should just say that for all these years it was my first comic book about Snoopy even though I knew about this cult character for ages. And I loved it, of course :)

  • "The Way Home for Wolf" by Rachel Bright, Jim Field. Last but not least, a beautiful picture book about a little wolf who wanted to do it all by himself but who found real friendship on his way. What I loved most in this little book were the compositions in illustrations that perfectly led the reader through the story.

Everything else:

  • Dark (Netflix series). While everyone was watching Christmas movies I couldn't stop watching this sci-fi series (though I still need to finish last season). Everything started with the disappearance of two children from families that somehow connected to a similar story from 1986. The more you watch the more complicated the story is. Love it.

  • Clementine peel decorations. I found this idea in reels and I absolutely loved it. So easy to make and everything smelled wonderful! I love using natural decorations as much as possible so this DIY idea is now one of my favourites.

  • Sarah Dyer Patreon. I have followed this illustrator for quite a long time but I just recently subscribed to her Patreon and I'm so happy I did. There are so many inspiring drawing sessions, zine ideas and Zoom recordings, I love them all.

  • Looe. It's just a beautiful small coastal town in Cornwall and it was so pretty in the dark with all those Christmas lights and decorated restaurants all around the town.

I hope this new year started wonderfully for you.

xx

Anna
